Lahad Datu Started At Kg Silam

Kg Silam, a coastal village on the Lahad Datu-Tawau highway was said to have been the place where Lahad Datu first started, but because of the pirates attacks, it was moved to the present site where Lahad Datu town is right now. The Idahan Community from Madai/Baturong went to Kg Silam to sell their goods including the bird's nests and other forest products.

The Idahan who used to be pagan converted to Islam and most of them as now Muslim..

PSMCS Constitution

The PSMCS members will receive a copy of the Association Constitution one the publication is completed by one of its Committee members, Tuan Hj Manap while the amended Constitution of the PSM will also be updated and printed once the amendments had been approved by the ROS.

Fund Raising And Anniversary Dinner Planned

PSMCS had planned for a Fund Raising and Anniversary Dinner in April 2010 and the Finance Committee under the Vice President, Tuan Hj Kassim Salleh is making sure that this event is a great success.

Cooperation with UiTM

PSMCS also plans to have a coopeation with UiTM to organize similar seminar at UiTM, which they used to have it before at UiTM to provide awareness and an avenue to make people understand and value about history and historical places. Once of PSMCS Committee Member will spearhead this task to make it happen.

Cooperation With UMS

PSMCS will have a meeting in December 2009 with the UMS School Of Social Science on the area of cooperation on history which includes;

The teaching of Historical Tourism in UMS,
Organizing of a seminar with UMS at UMS,
The giving of a talk at the School Of Social Science and
The project to trace the life and journey of Paduka Mat Salleh
Publication of Journal

Premise

After 35 years of its formation, PSMCS still does not have it own premise and it had asked for assistance to the Sabah State Government through the office of the State Secretary to use one of its unoccupied houses or building as its premise to carry on with its activities. So far no answer has been given as PSMCS now carries out its activities from the offices of the President and Vice President.

Waiting For The Date To Meet With The Adviser

PSMCS is waiting for the date to have a courtesy call to its Adviser, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah, YB Datuk Masidi Manjun whose ministry had contributed towards the publication of PSMCS Bulletin last year. Such contribution this year could help the Association produces its Bulletin again next year of 2010.

First Management Committee Meeting

First Management Committee meeting has been scheduled in the third week of November 2009 to discuss the historical plan as well as tasks to be carried out by the committee members at the office of the President.

Second Finance Committee Meeting

Finance Committee had its second meeting on November 15,2009 to deliberate further its plan to hold a fundraising and anniversary dinner in April 2010 at the office of the Vice President, Tuan Hj Kassim

Tawau Started At The Tawau River

There used to be an island at the mouth of the the Tawau River, but it is no more there now. The Bugis Community said they were the earliest as 'tawao' in their language means 'it is theirs', but the Tidung Community said they were the earliest, where 'tawau' means the hook and it was the answer given to the British traders who had asked them where the Tawau River was. Thinking that the British was asking what they were doing, they replied 'tawau' which means fishing.
